Man Utd Ratings: Diallo Shines vs PAOK, But Questions Remain
The Red Devils secured a comfortable 3-0 victory over PAOK in their Europa League Round of 16 first leg, but the performance was far from perfect. While Amad Diallo stole the show with a dazzling display, several players struggled to impress.
Here's a breakdown of the Man Utd player ratings:
Amad Diallo (8.5): This kid is magic! Diallo took the game by the scruff of the neck, his pace and skill causing havoc for the PAOK defense. He scored a stunning goal and was involved in the build-up to another. He's a real game-changer.
Bruno Fernandes (7): The Portuguese maestro controlled the midfield, dictating the tempo and creating chances. He was involved in the build-up to the first goal and provided a much-needed spark.
Mason Greenwood (6.5): The young striker looked lively and dangerous, getting into dangerous positions. However, he failed to convert his chances, which is becoming a recurring theme. Needs to find his finishing touch.
Scott McTominay (6): Solid performance from the Scottish midfielder, who provided a physical presence in the middle of the park. Didn't do much wrong but didn't stand out either.
Fred (6): A workmanlike display from Fred. He kept things ticking over, but didn't offer much in the way of creativity. Needs to be more adventurous.
Luke Shaw (6): A decent performance from the left-back, who defended diligently and provided some decent crosses. But he can be a bit too predictable sometimes.
Harry Maguire (5.5): Not a convincing performance from the captain. He was caught out a few times by PAOK's pacey forwards and lacked the composure expected of a top-class defender. Needs to be more assertive.
Victor Lindelof (5.5): Similar story to Maguire, Lindelof struggled to cope with the pace and movement of the PAOK attackers. Needs to rediscover his defensive instincts.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka (5): A quiet game from Wan-Bissaka. He offered very little going forward and was vulnerable defensively. Needs to be more involved in the game.
Donny van de Beek (5): A disappointing cameo from Van de Beek. He struggled to make an impact and failed to influence the game. Needs to find a way to break into the starting XI.
Substitutes:
Anthony Martial (6.5): Came on and looked lively, adding a spark to the attack. But he needs to be more clinical in front of goal.
Juan Mata (6): A solid contribution from Mata, who helped maintain possession and create chances. He's a valuable asset for the team.
Overall, Man Utd put in a professional performance and secured a comfortable win. However, they were far from their best. The performance raised questions about the team's overall consistency, especially defensively. The Red Devils will need to improve in the second leg if they want to progress to the quarter-finals.
The performance of Amad Diallo was a positive, but the team needs to show more consistency in future games.
